Thank you for your interest in changing the life of a young man by becoming a mentor! Being a mentor is rewarding and is one of the most important things you can do for a child. A mentor should help a child believe in himself and increase his confidence. A mentor should provide guidance and encouragement, but also ask questions and challenge the mentee. Dedicated consistent time with a child up to 8 hours a month can make a big difference in a young person’s life! Time=Influence!
Our Mentoring Programs supports young people who are trying to excel in their character. The young people are referred to our program for a variety of reasons, ranging from issues with being disrespectful to just simply wanting to be a part of a group who is involved with their community. We are always looking for dedicated individuals from the community to work with the youth as either a Group Mentor or One on One Mentor.
A Mentor is someone who, along with parents, provides young people with support, counsel, friendship, reinforcement and constructive example. Mentors and Group Mentor are good listeners, people who care and people who want to help children bring out their strengths.
A Mentor helps connect youth with resources, safe places and structured activities. They are a positive role model for the children.
Mentors meet 2 to 4 hours a month with mentees. This provides time to develop a consistent, positive, healthy relationship.
Group Mentors also meet up to 4 hours a month supporting group outings and group activities.
Mentors must submit an application and be at least 21 years of age. Background checks will be required to become a mentor to ensure the safety of each child. This is required to support any of the programs offered by DGC.
Each mentor is responsible for attending an orientation session reviewing the DGC handbook and signing mentor ground rules and safely guidelines prior to any activity with the children.
To begin the enrollment process to become a mentor, please complete the Mentor Membership Form. After filling it out, you will be contacted to schedule an interview. If you have questions, please contact us.
